finally made it out to canyonlands. pretty cool place, i definately would need more time to explore it if i was wanting to really see what it has to offer. it's broken up into 3 parts: island in the sky, the needles, and the maze. island in the sky is the plateau that rises above the rest of the park. the needles is the accessible lower section where you can get into the canyons and hike around a bit. the maze is almost all 4x4 roads and backcountry camping. it's also several hours away from where i'm currently camped. i went to the needles and hiked a few trails, took a few pictures, and mostly was just glad to stretch my legs after being cramped up in the truck in the rain. good times.
i figure i'll head out to Zion sooner than later. there is a big festival in Moab right now. it's called JeepFest. lots of people, lots of jeeps, lots of rednecks. my neighbors were drinking Budweiser at 8:30 this morning to get ready for a day of 4x4 driving. not that i'm one to judge but it doesn't seem smart to get shit canned before taking out a vehicle that requires a roll-bar. but hey, to each their own.
