Fisher Towers

last full day here around Moab and Arches.  i'll be sad to go but i been here a while now and its time to move onto the next stop along my way to Monteray.  most of the folks i've talked to who know a thing or two about hiking, climbing, ect. tell me that i NEED to see Zion National Park.  i was kinda on the fence about it until i talked to this cat who is a travel writer (semi-rad.com) as we sat around BS-ing he said "your from south dakota right?  well you're already this close to Zion you pretty much have to go."  and that man made a good point.  with luck i'll find some BLM land to camp out on so that i can forgo the site fees.  i've been paying $15 a night here which isn't terrible, but it's not free.

today's hike was Fisher Towers.  i've been saving this one for a day when i didn't feel like going too far from camp.  it's 13 miles north of me and really an impressive hike.  i keep being blown away by the amount of geological diversity that's out here.  i'm sure in the pictures it all looks pretty similar, "oh a rock!  look another rock!" but it's rather stunning in real life i assure you.

the Fisher Towers trail takes you up and down a gully until you get to the base of a mammoth upshot of rock (tower).  all along the hike the flora changes as you descend into the gullies and then out again.  it's pretty cool how that little bit of shade and additional water can produce plants that just plain shouldn't live in the desert.  the hike also features canyons of course.  beautiful winding canyons that i'm very much going to miss when i leave.
